MEETING TOPIC and SPEAKER BIO ![]() ![]() |
The topic of 3D laser scanning and measurement will be covered in detail. As scanning equipment and software advance with higher levels of accuracy, speed and affordability, more and more companies are adopting laser scanning for inspection when compared to conventional forms of metrology.
The laser scanning process is fairly simple:
First, specialized 3D scanning devices capture point clouds of data which are then processed by software. The software then analyzes the data and compares it to customer supplied 3D CAD models, generating a color-coded graphical report, which can be tailored to the end user. For areas of interest such as critical dimensions and features on the as-manufactured part, the software can generate color bands and shading to identify areas in and out of tolerance. 3D scanning can be for everything between first article inspection to monitoring the quality of production line parts.
